Affordable Care Act Enrollment Deadline: March 31st

The Washington Post is reporting that the Obama Administration has decided to extend the Affordable Care Act deadline to March 31 for enrolling in health insurance plans through Healthcare.gov and state exchanges to possibly mid-April as a means of accommodating people who may have encountered technical problems in completing their applications.

New applicants will be required to check a box on the exchange Web sites indicating that they tried to enroll by the March 31 deadline, but experienced difficulties that necessitate an extension. Requests will be based on the honor system, and the Administration says that it has no plans to verify whether an individual applicant actually encountered a problem completing their application.

No firm date has been set for the extension deadline. The final deadline will depend on the number of extension requests.
